Activites of DSK

DSK
at a glance Up to June 2004

DSK was established as a NGO back in 1989, formed when a group of social and professional activists wanted to address some of the problems in Dhaka slums. Originally starting on a voluntary basis, DSK just concentrated on health care activities. Over the years DSK has evolved to payment of staff and has expanded to other activities. DSK’s programs are as follows: -

HEALTH CARE PROGRAM
  Primary health care projects
Hospital project

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PROJECT

(water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion)

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
  (Training cell)

NON-FORMAL EDUCATION PROJECT
AGRICULTURE / BIO-CENTRE
SMALL PROJECTS

As of June 2004, the organisation is active in thirty-one (31) thanas in six (6) districts of Bangladesh. The program coverage has reached approximately 155 thousand people. Main areas of activity have been primary health care, water and sanitation, revolving credit, non-formal primary education, and skill development training. These are looked at briefly in the following sections (see activities Chapter for further details)
