Human Resources
DSK takes pride in writing definite job descriptions for each staff position. This helps to ensure a smoothly functioning organisation because responsibilities are well-defined.
Work on reviewing procedures such as staff appraisal is ongoing. Although DSK has a low staff turnover it is important to look at ways of improving job satisfaction.
All recruitment is carried out by a ‘Staff Selection Committee’. This is done strictly following the guidelines of the Recruitment Policy and each employee should abide by the specific service rules of the organisation
Gender Policy
DSK projects have a strong focus on the different gender needs of men and women. The vast majority of staff members have attended Gender and Development training. However, a gender policy for DSK staff has only recently been created. Implementation of this is ongoing and will hopefully improve the working environment. DSK believes that it creates a gender friendly atmosphere.
Staffing
At present, there are four hundred thirty six (436) full-time and part-time staff members working with DSK. Co-ordination of the project activities is done from Head Office in Dhaka. Staff number at the central level is twelve, Fifty-four (54) percent of staff are women. However, this does not give an accurate picture of staff in different levels of decision-making responsibility and work is ongoing to make the gender balance more equal.
At present, there is one woman staff member at the top management level. Two female staff members lead two of the urban credit branches.
DSK has served in the capacity of International Consultant with AMDA, to set up micro credit projects in Rwanda, Afghanistan and Zambia (1997, 1998). On the other hand, DSK was invited as resource organisation to the International dialogue and national dialogues organised by the Grameen Trust (1996, 1997, 1999)
