Introduction: Palli Dustha Bio-Centre Limited (PBCL), a limited company owned by Dustha Sasthya Kendra has started its journey in 1996 and was being operated profitably with a mission to ensure sustainable economic development of the rural households focusing on women empowerment. PBCL’s target was to operate micro-financing program in conform to social business which has been recognized as ethical business with commercial viability. PBCL emphasized on investing in poultry bird and milk cow rearing projects operated by the women in rural areas. During its fourteen years of business operation, PBCL rendered integrated service for 1847 women headed families for developing livestock projects and pocketed hundred percent successes. In the year 2009 GOB’s policy decision suggested PBCL to merge all of its five units with DSK’s ongoing micro credit program.

PBCL considered this changed situation an opportunity to diversify its business and decided to expand its business in handicrafts and handmade product sector. In conform to DSK’s mission and vision, PBCL has taken initiatives to develop community based product development towards maximizing production capacity and ensuring market access for the marginalized producers.

Mission statement: PBCL prefers business a tool of finding durable solution to poverty, injustice and gender discrimination. PBCL selects raw materials echo-friendly and designs products harmonized with nature.

Producers benefit: PBCL operates business transparently for maximizing benefit for the producers. PBCL designs its business efficiently as it operates without incurring losses and ensures justice for the producers.

Ethics behind raw material selection: We select echo-friendly raw materials for producing hand made goods and handicrafts. We use bio-degradable natural raw material jute and garment waste. On the other hand, we keep earth, air and water pollution free reusing plastic as raw materials for handicrafts produces. Especially, we prefer reuse of plastic material for producing fashionable goods and save most precious energy.
