Challenges |
|
There are different types of extreme poor in our country. Some of them are floating, some of them are living slumd with payments and some of them are living in different government fellow land like; road side, Bazar and river side, island etc. Working with extreme poor community is a big challenge for improving their livelihood and empowered economically. Because they have to live by hand to mouth and no regular source of income. Mostly they are involed into very irregular and non-formal economic sectors for their earning i.e. day labourer, push cart driver, Ricshaw driver, Van puller, Hawker, Beggar, Housemaid and so on. Depending their income status and availability their decesion of staying in urban or rural , different location in slum is a regular phenomenon. Very frequently and rapidly they shifted their homes with bags and baggages for hoping to capture future opportunity in the respective area. Therefore, to work with them and providing support and ensure follow-up in regular basis is imperative for the success of the project. Since starting the project implementation the challenges we faced are following:
- Slum power structure
- Slum eviction
- Relocation within the slum, other slum and rural villages
- Seasonal variation of income
- Land tenure of extreme poor
- No pro poor urban development policies
- Lack of basic services like; (education , health, family planning etc.) & high payment of house rent, utility services (gas, electricity & water)
- Whole community mobilization
