DESCRIPTION:On 5 May 2025\, Honorable Mr. Kelvin Shingles\, Country Director of WHH\, along with the WHH team and Mr. Prodip Kumar Roy (Joint Director\, DSK)\, visited DSK-WHH WASH Leda Rohingya Project interventions in Camp-26 and Camp-24. \nDuring their visit\, the team observed several key components of the project\, including the ARO plant\, MRF unit\, DEWATS site\, elevated handwashing station\, elevated drying bed\, and innovative use of non-recyclable materials for constructing privacy screens in front of latrines. They also reviewed the water distribution systems and monitored Free Residual Chlorine (FRC) testing at a tap stand. \nMr. Shingles graciously shared his reflections in our visitor’s book\, stating:\n“Thank you for receiving us and providing a comprehensive overview of the treatment plant. WHH is proud to support such an important contribution to addressing WASH needs in the camps. Please continue delivering safe water and seek opportunities to establish revolving funds to ensure sustainability and long-term operation.”

DESCRIPTION:On 29 May 2025\, the NGO Platform organized a Donor Dialogue and Stakeholder Consultation at the Best Western Heritage Hotel in Cox’s Bazar. The event brought together representatives from NGOs\, INGOs\, UN agencies\, donor groups\, and government bodies including RRRC and law enforcement agencies. \nDr. Dibalok Singha\, Executive Director of DSK\, participated in the consultation and shared key insights. He emphasized the need for inclusive discussions and coordination at all levels to ensure transparency and accountability in the GRP budget. He also highlighted the importance of representation from the Rohingya community. \nKey issues discussed included: progress in the localization process\, budget shortfalls relative to needs\, impacts of declining donor contributions\, the need for social cohesion and skills development etc. \nDSK set up an information booth showcasing its ongoing activities. The booth was visited by RRRC and donor representatives. DSK’s Project Managers\, staff in Cox’s Bazar\, and Joint Director (Projects) Mr. Prodip Kumar Roy were actively present\, contributing significantly to the success of the event.

DESCRIPTION:On 25 June 2025\, a distinguished delegation led by Ms. Lajana Manandhar\, Chief Executive Officer of Lumanti Nepal and Regional Coordinator of FANSA\, visited various WASH initiatives implemented by Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK) in Dhaka. \nThe delegation was warmly received by Dr. Dibalok Singha\, Executive Director of DSK\, along with Md. Hamidul Islam\, Deputy Executive Director; Md. Abdul Hakim\, Director (WASH); Ms. Sanjida Jahan Ashrafi\, Advocacy Focal; M. Rezaul Karim\, Technical Officer (Monitoring and Quality Control); and Nayan-ul-Din\, Project Officer. \nDuring the visit\, the delegation observed key interventions under the following five projects: Urban Public Sanitation Project—Mirpur-12\, WASH4UrbanPoor—Dhaka\, Water Operators Partnership (WOP3)\, WASH4UP – Lalasorai Tekpara Slum\, Social Awareness Program to Strengthen Access to Water and Sanitation for Women and Vulnerable Groups in Selected LICs. \nThe purpose of the visit was to learn more about DSK’s ongoing efforts to improve access to safe water\, sanitation\, and hygiene services for low-income communities in urban areas. \n                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     \nNotable interventions include the construction of disability-friendly chamber latrines\, installation of menstrual hygiene management (MHM) facilities and sanitary pad vending machines\, as well as the implementation of regular hygiene awareness sessions and school-based campaigns. Additionally\, solid waste management systems have been established in public sanitation facilities and two low-income communities. \nThe visit reflects international recognition of DSK’s impactful and inclusive WASH initiatives and its continued commitment to improving public health outcomes for underserved populations.

DESCRIPTION:On 15 July 2025\, a high-level delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) visited the Duaripara informal settlement in Mirpur-12\, Dhaka\, under the DESWSP project jointly implemented by DSK and Dhaka WASA. \nThe mission was led by Ms. Veronica Joffre\, Senior Gender & Social Development Specialist (ADB)\, accompanied by Ms. Nasheeba Selim\, Ms. Tahrima Ahmed\, and Ms. Sinora Chakma from ADB-BRM. \nFrom Dhaka WASA\, Mr. Md. Wahidul Islam Murad (Project Director\, DESWSP) and Mr. Md. Mostafizur Rahaman (Executive Engineer) participated.\nDr. Dibalok Singha (Executive Director\, DSK)\, Sanjida Jahan Ashrafi (Project Team Leader)\, along with team members Sanjida Jahan Ashrafi (Project Lead)\, Dr. Kallol Chowdhury\, Dr. Rita Sen\, Akhil Chandra Das\, and other project staff.\nRepresenting partner NGO BASA-BISRIV\, Mr. AKM Shirajul Islam\, Executive Director\, also attended the event. \nThe delegation was warmly received by community members (CBO). SUMMARY:Tribute to Professor Mahfuza Khanam
DESCRIPTION:On 25 August 2025\, at the Head Office Building-1 of Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK)\, a memorial meeting was held in honor of our beloved freedom fighter\, President of Khelaghar\, former Vice-President of DSK and DUCSU\, distinguished academic\, and women’s rights leader\, Professor Mahfuza Khanam. \nThe program commenced with one minute of silence and floral tributes. DSK’s Deputy Director (Administration) Mr. Aslam Khan then presented her illustrious life sketch. A documentary on her lifelong struggle was also screened. \nTributes and reflections were shared by DSK’s Joint Director Ms. Afroza Daliya and Director (Health) of DSK Hospital Dr. Mahmudur Rahman. Respectful memories were also expressed by Executive Committee Member Ms. Shahina Hossain\, General Body Member Dr. Laila Arjumand Banu\, Prof. Dr. Tajul Islam\, Executive Committee Member Ms. Aktari Mamtaz\, Treasurer Mr. Habib Uddin\, General Body Members Mr. Muhammed Emdadul Haque and Mr. M. S. Siddiqui\, Executive Director Dr. Dibalok Singha\, General Body Member Dr. Moksedul Hamid\, Vice President Ms. Saleha Begum\, Former President Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Abdullah\, General Secretary Prof. Dr. A. S. M. Golam Mortuza\, and President Prof. Dr. Nur Mohammad Talukder. Other General Body members of DSK were also present. \nOn behalf of the bereaved family\, Dr. Mahfuz Shafique expressed his heartfelt feelings. A large number of staff from DSK’s head office\, hospital\, and branch offices also joined the program. Emotional musical performances by Mr. Biplob Sarkar and Ms. Ratna Sarkar added depth to the occasion. The program was conducted by DSK’s Director (Microfinance) Mr. Shamsul Alam. \nProfessor Mahfuza Khanam was a shining symbol of courage\, honesty\, humanity\, and leadership. DESCRIPTION:The Development Studies Department of Dhaka University\, in collaboration with the Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK)\, has conducted a joint research titled “Impact of Microfinance on the Socioeconomic Well-being of Households in Haor Areas of Bangladesh.” To present the findings of this study\, DSK’s Research and Knowledge Management Department organized a seminar on 13 October 2025 at the DSK Head Office conference room. \nThe research findings were presented by Professor Dr. M. Abu Yusuf\, Professor Dr. Naeem Sultana\, and Associate Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Khaleq from Dhaka University’s Development Studies Department. \nThe seminar was attended by Dr. Nur Mohammad Talukdar (President\, DSK)\, Professor Dr. A.S.M. Golam Mortuza (Secretary General)\, Habib Uddin (Treasurer)\, Dr. Dibalok Singha (Executive Director)\, Md. Hamidul Islam (Deputy Executive Director)\, Dr. Mahmudur Rahman (Director-Health)\, Mr. Shamsul Alam (Director\, Microfinace)\, Sarder Shahidul Kabir (Deputy Cheif\, Microfinace)\, F.M. DESCRIPTION:DSK held its 33rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on October 25\, 2025\, under the chairmanship of Freedom Fighter Prof. Dr. Nur Mohammad Talukder\, President of DSK. \nThe meeting began with a moment of silence in remembrance of late DSK staff members\, their family members\, and other distinguished personalities. \nDuring the session\, DSK’s programs and projects for the fiscal year 2024–2025\, along with the external audit report and the governance report\, were presented for detailed discussion and approval. \nAmong the participants were Ms. Saleha Begum – Vice President; Prof. Dr. Taibul Hassan Khan – Vice President; Prof. Dr. A.S.M. Golam Mortuza – General Secretary; Ms. Nazneen Sultana – Joint Secretary General ; Mr. Habib Uddin Ahmed – Treasurer; Prof. Md. Anwarul Islam – Organizing Secretary; Ms. Akhtari Mamtaz\, Ms. Shahina Hossain\, Freedom Fighter Professor Dr. A.B.M. Abdullah; and General Body Members Mr. Muhammad Emdadul Haque\, Mr. Md. Jasim Uddin\, Prof. Dr. Tajul Islam\, Dr. Saqui Khandoker\, Dr. Laila Arjumand Banu\, Dr. Moksedul Hamid\, and Mr. Partho Sarathy Chakrabarty. \nDiscussions were also held by Dr. Dibalok Singha\, Executive Director and Member Secretary; Mr. Hamidul Islam\, Deputy Executive Director; and members of DSK’s senior management team. \nThe renowned firm ACNABIN and Company audited the financial statements for FY 2024–2025\, which the meeting reviewed and approved. \nIn the past fiscal year\, DSK implemented a wide range of activities across 177 upazilas in 25 districts of Bangladesh\, directly benefiting over 4.1 million people. The organization worked to improve water supply and sanitation\, healthcare services\, disaster risk reduction\, livelihood development and microfinance\, non-formal education\, and emergency relief and rehabilitation programs.

Comrade Moni Singh was a leading figure of the communist movement in the Indian subcontinent\, a key architect of the communist movement in Bangladesh\, a fearless anti-British revolutionary\, former president of the Communist Party of Bangladesh\, hero of the Tanka Movement\, advisor to the Government of Bangladesh during the Liberation War\, and a lifelong champion of the rights of peasants\, workers\, and oppressed people. \nThe meeting was chaired by Valiant Freedom Fighter Professor Dr. Nur Mohammad Talukdar\, President of DSK. Speakers included Professor Dr. ASM Golam Mortuza\, Professor Dr. Taibul Hasan Khan\, Dr. Dibalok Singha\, Aktari Momtaz\, and Md. Hamidul Islam. The session was presided over by Dr. Mahmudur Rahman\, Director (Health). \nA short documentary on Comrade Moni Singh’s life and struggle was screened\, followed by cultural performances by DSK staff. DESCRIPTION:On 05 March 2026\, the Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA)\, with support from Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK)\, organized a public hearing at the Comrade Moni Singh Memorial Museum auditorium in Durgapur\, Netrokona. \nA total of 50 DSK borrowers participated in the event\, sharing their experiences\, feedback\, and recommendations regarding microcredit services. Key issues raised included interest rate reduction\, installation of deep tube wells in hilly areas\, legal support for indigenous communities on land rights\, grants for injured or affected members\, and the introduction of a grace period in agricultural loans. \nThe event was attended by MRA Executive Vice Chairman Professor Dr. Mohammed Helal Uddin\, along with other senior officials of MRA. Representatives from DSK\, including Executive Director Dr. Dibalok Singha\, were also present. \nIn his remarks\, Dr. Dibalok Singha highlighted that DSK provides loans to support client development through funds collected from banks and PKSF. He appreciated MRA’s initiative to engage directly with clients at the field level. \nProfessor Dr. Helal Uddin addressed participants’ queries and spoke about rationalizing service charges\, increasing savings interest rates\, and enhancing customer benefits through welfare funds. He also commended DSK for its contributions to microcredit and broader social development initiatives.
